How do I deactivate my eBox?

If you're checking your eBox on the “My eBox” website, it's best to do so through your “My eBox profile.”

To do this, please follow these steps:

  • Log in to https://mycitizenebox.belgium.be/myebox/ using a digital ID of your choice (eID, itsme®, ...).
  • Click “Profile” at the top of the page.
  • In the menu at the top left, click “Deactivate My eBox”

  • A pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm the deactivation of your My eBox account. If you wish to confirm, click the “Deactivate My eBox” button.

  • A new window will open to confirm that you have opted out of receiving messages electronically:

  • Once you've confirmed the deactivation, a pop-up will appear in the top-right corner of the screen to confirm that it's done:

  • Your My eBox has been deactivated. A final window will appear to let you know that the deactivation process may take a few minutes:
  • You can reactivate it at any time by following the activation steps: How do I know if new documents have arrived?

Are you using eBox through another service provider? (Mijn Burgerprofiel, Doccle, KBC or IRISbox) ?

We recommend that you contact your service provider (such as the help desk or customer service), who will be able to provide you with more information on how to manage your consent on their platform.

We also provide alternative instructions for deactivating your eBox:

Option 1: Digital and effective immediately

When managing permissions related to your digital keys, you can also do the following:

  • Log in to https://iamapps.belgium.be/sma/selfManagement/myApplications using a digital key of your choice (eID, itsme®, code via SMS, ...).
  • There you will find a list of all eBox service providers. If you have enabled an eBox authorization, there will be a “Revoke Authorization” button below the service provider's logo.
  • Click this button: the authorization will be immediately revoked. Repeat this process if you wish to revoke authorizations for multiple service providers.

Option 2: by mail (only if other options don't work)

You can deactivate your eBox by sending a signed and dated letter, along with a copy of both sides of your ID card, to the FPS BOSA.

IMPORTANT: The copy of your ID card you send must be of sufficient quality. It is also important that the address listed be written legibly.

Please note that processing such a deactivation request may take up to 30 days after we receive your letter. Please use the following template for your letter and include your full contact information so we can notify you as soon as your deactivation request has been processed.

Important: Until your request to deactivate eBox has been processed, you may still receive messages via eBox. These messages retain the same legal validity as if you had received them on paper. Once your request has been processed and your eBox deactivated, you will no longer receive messages via eBox, as the sending institutions will be informed that you no longer use eBox and will use another channel to send you their messages (such as regular mail).
